Musical Plans for Summer 2012
MVP’s latest musical production of Guys and Dolls, was a success in every way; an outstanding cast, a beautiful but demanding set, a dedicated crew, wonderful dancing and a timeless musical score. Unfortunately, it was not a success for MVP financially.
Despite very receptive audiences, the attendance was not sufficient to offset the high costs of such a production - costs over which we have little or no control based on the expectations of the public such as larger orchestras or sound enhancement, and the up-front costs related to securing performance space and licensure. In the usual scheme of things, MVP would plan to produce a large scale musical on alternate years, or next Summer. Recently the MVP Board of Directors has recognized the financial implications of such a plan and without the influx of sufficient funding before the fact, have acknowledged that at this time we cannot continue with plans for a Summer musical in 2012.
Instead, we will be producing a smaller musical, "Baby", in the Fall under the direction of Mitch Rosengarten. Our hope is that with increased sponsor donations and audience attendance we will be able to produce a large scale musical again in the Summer of 2013 or 2014.
